Remotea and HUS begin cooperation in ECG analytics development

RemoteA Ltd is developing a SmartECG service that speeds up the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and patient access to treatment. RemoteA and HUS, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, will be cooperating in the service’s pilot program that aims to use artificial intelligence in diagnosing cardiac patients.

At the core of the SmartECG service is an algorithm that generates a high-quality automatic analysis to help general practitioners in their diagnoses. In addition, the browser-based analytics tool  makes the diagnostic work of cardiologists significantly faster. The SmartECG service was chosen by Oy Apotti Ab as one of the five most promising digital innovations, and it will be launched on the market in 2019.

In late autumn 2018, RemoteA and HUS will launch a pilot program that aims to use the SmartECG service as a platform for research use of ECG analytics and enable deep integration of artificial intelligence where the use of patient data is not limited to long-term ECG monitoring.

“Artificial intelligence enables higher quality and increases productivity. HUS is a forerunner in the development of digital healthcare in Finland. Our cooperation with RemoteA Ltd raises ECG diagnostics to a whole new level,” says Mika Laine, a specialist in cardiology at HUS.

The algorithm draws on 1.5 million hours of cardiogram data and 90,000 reports from cardiologists

TheSmartECG service is based on an algorithm and uses artificial intelligence. It automatically interprets ECG data, selects the most important results and supports GPs in making diagnosis and treatment decisions.

“Our extensive experience in remote diagnostic services and strong expertise in algorithms support the development work,” says Heikki Väänänen, the Head of Analytics at RemoteA.

RemoteA specialises in cardiac data analysis, remote diagnostic services and is a certified medical device manufacturer. Read our story from sleep-apnoea monitoring to developing ECG algorithm. We are currently developing a SmartECG Service, an algorithm-based decision-making tool for GPs and cardiologists. Remote Diagnostics Service Platform is available in Sweden and United Kingdom.

HUS – The Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa – is a Joint Authority formed by 24 municipalities. The aim is to offer patients in all member municipalities a timely and equal access to specialized medical care.

RemoteA Ltd is a privately owned Finnish medical technology company founded in 2002, specializing in cardiac data analysis and electronic healthcare services. As pioneers in remote diagnostics, we have provided healthcare units in Finland, Sweden and the UK with a total of 170,000 ECG, sleep apnea and blood pressure remote analyses in the past fifteen years. We employ software, algorithm and business experts and cooperate with leading cardiologists.
